Plum Township August 2, 1790
In 1790 Plum Township, Allegheny County was sparsely populated agricultural area.
There were just over 400 persons recorded that were living as of August 2, 1790.
The early census takers were Marshals or Sheriffs, sometimes their assistants.
They were given 9 months to collect their data for each of the townships in their county.
As they made their journey around the county they recorded the head of household, the
number of males 16 and older, males under 15, females, slaves and other free persons
that resided in the home as of August 2, 1790. This meant that who was currently there
might not have been the same as who was there on the particular day they visited.
As you will see penmanship was not a requirement nor was spelling. As a guide we have provided
and abstract of pages 123 and 124 comprising Plum Township in 1790. An abstract is an interpretation of an original.
There may differing views as to what the author intended and therefore your interpretation may not agree.
We welcome your interpretations and will update changes as we believe necessary.
You will find photographic images of the original census documents which can printed or seen in a magnified view.
You will also be able to view and print the abstracts.
